The Chimay Brewery will celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Scourmont Abbey this year with an exclusive limited edition Trappist beer, the brewery announced in a statement on Tuesday.
The Chimay Brewery describes its new Chimay 175 beer as "a blonde beer, both lively and refined, brewed in the spirit of monastic tradition."
The Chimay 175 has an alcohol content of 6.5%. Like the brewery’s other beers, it will bear the Authentic Trappist Product label.
This label ensures the beer is brewed within the Trappist abbey, supervised by monks, and that the majority of profits are dedicated to social assistance.
Founded in 1850, the Scourmont Abbey is a Cistercian abbey located in the heart of Hainaut.
It is important to note that alcohol consumption is harmful to health. In 2023, the World Health Organization concluded there is no safe consumption level for alcohol. In other words, even small amounts increase the risk of severe diseases.
