A waiter at the Zeezicht Café in Antwerp, suspected of raping several female customers, has been released by the Antwerp Indictment Division, according to information from Het Laatste Nieuws, confirmed by defence lawyers on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old waiter was arrested in early April and placed under electronic surveillance a few days later. He spent his pre-trial detention under house arrest.
The man was accused of getting at least five female customers of the café drunk before raping them. However, he denied doing so.
The indictment chamber lifted his electronic surveillance last week. However, he still has to comply with certain conditions, such as a ban on contacting the victims, his lawyers said.
