Romanian telecom company DIGI has introduced a new mobile plan offering 5 gigabytes of data for just €3 per month.
Notably, this plan does not include calls or text messages. Previously, DIGI launched a €5 mobile plan that included 15 gigabytes of data along with unlimited calls and texts.
DIGI has been operating in the Belgian market as the fourth telecom provider since the end of last year. By the end of March, the company had amassed 53,000 mobile customers.
According to a study released this week by telecom regulator BIPT, the entry of this budget-friendly competitor has indeed sparked a "breakthrough" in the mobile market.
Several brands, particularly budget ones, have adjusted their prices and offerings in response to DIGI’s competitive plans. For instance, Hey! Telecom, the low-cost brand of Orange Belgium, introduced a €5 plan, which has since been discontinued.
Estimates from the BIPT suggest that the average consumer used 10.1 gigabytes of data per month last year.
