The drift club ‘Balkan Krew’ attempted to hold an illegal drifting event in Geel on Saturday night, causing traffic disruptions as hundreds of vehicles congregated at the Geel-Oost interchange before swiftly dispersing due to a strong police presence, according to social media reports from the Geel-Laakdal-Meerhout police zone.
Balkan Krew is persistent in seeking official drift tracks and continues to organise illegal gatherings across Belgium in their absence.
Starting at 21:00, the police noticed cars with Belgian, Dutch, German, Romanian, and French licence plates appearing mainly in Sint-Niklaas. Rumours suggested the Kemp or Limburg region as the meeting point, with a nearby business park in Geel emerging as the target.
Police teams from the zone were quickly mobilised, with reinforcements from surrounding areas, federal road police, and the federal police reserve. By 22:30, hundreds of vehicles had arrived at the Geel-Oost interchange, causing temporary traffic congestion.
Thanks to the robust police presence and thorough inspections, the organisers’ plans were significantly disrupted. By 23:00, the group had moved towards Beringen, leaving Geel-Oost largely empty by 23:30. The convoy later continued to a shopping complex in Hasselt and eventually headed towards Voeren, police reported.
