Two men, aged 23 and 27, were injured in a violent fight on Sunday morning in the Seefhoek district of Antwerp, leaving the younger man in critical condition while police investigate further after making three arrests.
Authorities were alerted to the incident at 5:30. “A fight broke out among several people in Lange Beeldekensstraat, with various objects used as weapons,” said police spokesperson Kim Bastiaens.
Three men were taken into custody; one aged 23 and two aged 27. “The 23-year-old and one of the 27-year-olds were injured and taken to hospital, with the younger man in critical condition,” the spokesperson added. The reasons for the fight remain unclear.
The district has been widely known as a drug trading hotbed, and a 32-year-old man was stabbed to death in the same neighbourhood, less than 200 metres away from this incident, in May, when he attempted to protect an innocent woman who had been attacked earlier. The circumstances around this fight are still uncertain.
According to several reports, the 23-year-old is no longer in a life-threatening condition and is recovering from his injuries quickly.
