Proximus, in partnership with the Thales Group, has won a "major" contract with NATO to modernise the organisations' IT infrastructure, the Brussels-based telecoms operator announced on Tuesday.

The value of the contract has not been disclosed, but according to the newspaper L'Echo, it is estimated to exceed €100 million.

The consortium formed by Proximus and Thales has been selected by the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) to manage and operate its core network.

The project will run until the end of 2029. It "aims to provide a cutting-edge integrated technology ecosystem to revolutionise the operations and collaboration of NCIA users," Proximus said in a statement.

Thales and Proximus will provide a "fully managed" service, including a certified and accredited cloud infrastructure, the provision of end-user devices as a service for staff, robust cybersecurity solutions, advanced networking capabilities, platform administration services and scalable cloud services.

In addition, a secure mobility solution is being deployed, including the provision of more than 5,000 laptops equipped with multi-domain security technology, enabling users to access different levels of security classification from a single device.

"This strategic contract is a major step towards technological modernisation to support the NCIA's critical missions. By integrating cutting-edge connectivity, mobility and security solutions, this project ensures a solution tailored to the military challenges of tomorrow," Proximus added.
