The dismantling of a major synthetic drug production network in the Liège region has led to the arrest of several suspects, the Liège public prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday.

As part of an investigation initiated in 2024, the Liège Federal Judicial Police conducted an operation on 5 June aimed at apprehending five individuals suspected of involvement in synthetic drug production. The operation involved around 40 investigators who carried out approximately ten searches in the Liège areas of Amay, Grâce-Hollogne, Liège, Modave, Olne, Seraing, Trooz, Verlaine, and Wanze.

All suspects connected to the trafficking were arrested, including one with support from federal police special units. Police from the Condroz zone and sniffer dog handlers specialising in detecting drugs, cash, weapons, and explosives also participated.

During the investigations, detectives discovered an ecstasy pill-pressing machine, along with equipment and materials used for pill production. Investigators estimate that several thousand pills were likely produced by one of the primary suspects.

Smaller quantities of cocaine and cannabis were seized, along with 11 weapons, including a Kalashnikov, a sniper rifle, a .357 Magnum, and a 9mm pistol, according to the prosecutor’s office. Investigators also found luxury clothing items, some authentic and others counterfeit.

At this stage of the investigation, two individuals have been brought before a Liège examining judge, who charged them before releasing them under specific conditions.
