Two men are facing a 24-month prison sentence in the Leuven correctional court for committing eight thefts in the centre of Tienen.

The incidents occurred during the night of 31 March to 1 April 2025. Police received a report of suspicious activities involving a vehicle in Tienen. Upon arrival, officers found M.C., aged 26, who was identified by a witness as one of the perpetrators. Shortly after, A.E., aged 28, was located nearby. Both resisted arrest, and one kicked an officer.

During the search, officers found ten ecstasy pills on A.E. and nine on M.C. They also discovered stolen bank cards, wallets, and other items such as perfumes, sunglasses, and jewellery. Several stolen electric bicycles were later recovered. Although the suspects initially denied involvement, they confessed before the investigating judge. A police officer has filed a civil suit seeking moral damages.

The defence argued that their clients did not resist police. They also dismissed the charge of participating in a criminal organisation as unfounded. The suspects claimed they had “no intention of committing theft” and stated they did not see the officer who filed the civil suit during or after the intervention.

The prosecution seeks to send a strong message. “The suspects showed no respect for other people’s property.” The prosecutor demanded a 24-month prison sentence and a €1,000 fine.

A verdict is expected on 25 June.
