Eight people were arrested in Charleroi after a major police operation on Wednesday dismantled a large arms trafficking network, according to the Charleroi Public Prosecutor's Office on Thursday.

As part of the operation, the federal judicial police carried out nineteen house searches. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was seized.

A total of 14 people were arrested. Of those 14, eight are now in custody. One person has been released on bail.

The network is believed to be an international arms trafficking network with links to Turkey.

The police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the network.
