Two premises in Sint-Jansplein, Antwerp, were sealed off following a police operation on Saturday evening, the local police reported on Sunday.

Several police teams participated in what was described as a “large-scale operation”. Inspectors from social security and a labour prosecutor conducted checks at various cafés.

During the operation, it was discovered that undeclared work was happening at two cafés, an issue that had occurred previously at the same locations. In total, five individuals were found to be illegally residing in the country. Two were working in the cafés, while the other three were seated on the terrace.

The local police stated that official reports were filed and the Immigration Office was notified. The labour prosecutor ordered both cafés to be sealed.
