A lifeless body was found during the night between Monday and Tuesday in the Brussels municipality of Saint-Gilles, Brussels firefighters said on Tuesday. The initial report by Bruzz was confirmed to Belga.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. The public prosecutor's office went to the scene and ordered an investigation.
"The fire brigade was called at around 03:20 to this incident on Place Victor Horta, near the Pullman hotel, not far from the Midi station," said Brussels Fire Brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency services confirmed the death of the victim. "The circumstances of the incident remain unknown at this time," concluded the fire department spokesperson.
The Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office, also present at the scene in the morning, said it had opened an investigation. "We can confirm that a body was found during the night of 16 to 17 June on Place Victor Horta," the public prosecutor's office confirmed.
The Public Prosecutor's Office requested the intervention of the federal judicial police laboratory at the scene and also appointed a forensic doctor to determine the cause of death.
