Belgium is being slow in bringing over the hundreds of Palestinian family members of Gaza residents currently on its evacuation list, De Standaard reported on Thursday.

The newspaper highlighted testimonies indicating that visa applications are cumbersome, and evacuations are proceeding with logistical difficulty. Some people have been on the evacuation list for over a year.

Several lawyers have raised the alarm, and some cases have already led to legal actions.

Hundreds of people are waiting in Gaza to be evacuated to Belgium, confirmed Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot of Les Engagés.

The processing time for a family reunification request is eight months, with services currently overwhelmed, according to Minister for Asylum and Migration Anneleen Van Bossuyt (N-VA).

Since March, 38 people have been evacuated to Belgium.

In comparison, the Netherlands has evacuated 72 individuals, and France conducted an evacuation of 150 Palestinians at the end of April.

There is no information yet on when the Belgian Government will carry out another evacuation.
