A man died last night following a fight in the Matonge district of the Brussels municipality of Ixelles.

The suspect fled the scene but has since been apprehended. Initial reports by RTL suggested the victim was a woman, but the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office has corrected it, confirming it was a male.

"A fight between two individuals escalated into a fight on Rue Longue-Vie in Ixelles last night. One of the individuals was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries. The suspect fled on foot but has now been arrested," the prosecutor’s office spokesperson Laura Demullier stated.

An investigation has been launched, and a magistrate has been appointed to oversee the case. The federal police laboratory and a forensic doctor will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The prosecutor and the investigating judge also attended the scene.

"In the interest of the investigation and out of respect for the victim’s family, the prosecutor’s office will not provide further information about the facts," the spokesperson added.
