Thomas More college will launch a new AI tool, Tommi, on Saturday to assist students facing difficulties in choosing their higher education courses.
The introduction of Tommi aims to address the stress associated with selecting from a vast array of available programmes and the so-called “hard cut” rule. This rule requires students to pass all first-year subjects by the end of their second year. In the past, students sometimes carried over failed courses for several years, hindering their ability to graduate. The measure intends to put an end to “eternal students.”
This situation, along with the “immense” range of options, causes significant stress for prospective students. “This was our motivation to develop the AI tool,” explained Tim Moriën, Director of Marketing and Communications at Thomas More.
Students can ask Tommi questions like ‘What is a study credit?’, ‘I enjoy healthcare and working with people, which bachelor’s degrees are suitable for me?’ and ‘What job opportunities will I have after studying electromechanics?’
Tommi offers detailed information about all courses available at Thomas More. However, Moriën believes the tool is useful even for those intending to study elsewhere. “Most future students inquire about general topics such as course content or career prospects,” he said. “In this respect, Tommi can be valuable for any prospective student.”
The tool can be accessed at www.tommi.be.
