On Saturday afternoon, a man was arrested at an Aldi supermarket in Scherpenheuvel, Belgium, after being found with an air gun, prompting the evacuation of the store.
At around 12:30, reports emerged of a man hiding behind a vehicle in the store’s underground car park. Witnesses described the man as appearing confused and in possession of a weapon, leading to a police call and a precautionary store evacuation.
“The man initially refused to surrender, but after about 45 minutes, police successfully apprehended him,” stated Sarah Callewaert from the Leuven prosecutor’s office. No one was injured. The weapon turned out to be an air rifle. The man is currently being questioned at the police station, but his exact motives remain unclear.
