From today, visitors can once again explore the newly transformed and renamed Molenheide Dune Park.

The park has undergone significant restoration efforts over recent years, focusing on the regeneration of dunes and the redesign of the area around the forest canteen. As part of a larger nature investment project, 14 hectares have been converted into a diverse landscape of sand dunes, heathland, and open forest, encouraging the return of rare plants and wildlife.

The updated park now features natural play elements, such as children’s play dunes and a redesigned wild boar meadow. Visitors can also enjoy an immersive walking path and an educational scavenger hunt for children. A bee hall is set to open soon, offering visitors a chance to experience local honey production.

“The redevelopment of Molenheide exemplifies how we can blend nature restoration with visitor engagement,” said the Flemish Minister for the Environment, Jo Brouns (CD&V). “This initiative not only revives the original dune landscape but also provides spaces for people to experience and appreciate nature, bringing them closer to their environment and strengthening support for its protection.”
