Due to significant traffic disruptions on the Antwerp ring road towards Ghent, the Agency for Roads and Traffic will open a second lane near the works in the Kennedy Tunnel by the evening.

The contractor has deployed additional crews to expedite the work. “The construction site has been reorganised,” stated Roads and Traffic Antwerp, thanking the contractor for providing extra teams.

Specifically, Roads and Traffic aims to open an additional lane towards Ghent from 19:00 on Saturday evening until 5:00 on Sunday. After that, only one lane will be available from 5:00 to 12:00 on Sunday, due to the need for the concrete to cure. From 12:00 until Monday morning at 5:00, the road will again have two lanes open.

The Flemish Traffic Centre has urged drivers to avoid the Kennedy Tunnel towards Ghent due to the long queues on Saturday. Travellers from the east of the country heading to the coast are advised to take the route via Brussels.

Concrete repairs began in the Kennedy Tunnel towards Ghent on Friday evening. According to the initial plans, only one out of three lanes would be available until Monday morning. Similar works are scheduled for the weekend from Friday evening, 4 July, to Monday morning, 7 July.
