A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to eight months in prison by the Brussels Correctional Court for a burglary he committed in a company in Grimbergen in March of this year.

The young man used a crowbar to break into the company’s warehouse during the night of 9 to 10 March 2025 and stole an electric bicycle. Unfortunately for him, the security cameras recorded the entire incident.

The Grimbergen local police immediately recognised him, having caught him red-handed in another burglary just four days prior. He had already been prosecuted for that offence and sentenced to a twelve-month prison term.

“The first arrest and prosecution clearly didn’t deter him,” stated the prosecution during the trial. “I am requesting a one-year prison sentence for these offences.”

“My client maintains that he is not the man on the footage and did not commit these acts,” argued the young man’s lawyer. “If found guilty, I request that the court consider the initial conviction and refrain from imposing a harsh additional sentence.”

The court found the man guilty of the Grimbergen burglary but took the previous conviction into account when deciding the sentence. Instead of a one-year prison term, he was sentenced to eight months.
