Personal relationships contribute more to satisfaction than financial situations.

Just over a third of Belgians (37.9%) are very satisfied with their financial situation, according to quarterly data released on Tuesday by the statistics agency, Statbel, while more than seven out of ten Belgians (70.6%) are highly satisfied with their personal relationships.

The highest dissatisfaction regarding personal finances is found in Brussels (26.6%) and Wallonia (27.1%), where dissatisfaction has increased compared to the previous quarter by 6.3% and 3.4% respectively. In Flanders, financial dissatisfaction remained stable at 12.4%.

Unemployed individuals and those with long-term disabilities report the highest dissatisfaction with their financial situation, while those who are highly educated and employed are the least discontented.

More than a third (37.5%) of respondents indicate they find it very difficult to make ends meet.

The survey also reveals that 9.1% of respondents feel lonely all or most of the time.

In contrast, two-thirds of Belgians (66.9%) feel happy all or most of the time, with students (74%) and employed individuals (72.4%) feeling happier than the unemployed (43.6%) and especially those with long-term disabilities (30.5%).

These figures come from a survey conducted quarterly by Statbel, involving approximately 5,000 Belgians aged between 16 and 74. The most recent data pertains to the first quarter of 2025.
