A Brussels-based technology company, Axiles Bionics, has raised €6 million to develop its Lunaris robotic foot prosthesis, according to a press release from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
Axiles Bionics, affiliated with VUB’s BruBotics research lab, designed Lunaris to enable natural and intuitive movement for lower-leg amputees. The prosthesis has received CE certification from the EU and approval from the FDA in the United States, making it eligible for reimbursement by health insurance in several countries.
The €6 million investment comes from a Series A funding round aimed at helping growing companies expand. The funding round was led by PE Group with support from the European EIC fund, Finance&Invest.brussels, and several private investors.
Axiles Bionics plans to use the funds to market Lunaris internationally and further develop next-generation bionic technology.
“We envision a future where advanced bionics enhance people’s lives through improved mobility, health, and well-being,” said Pierre Cherelle, founder and CEO of Axiles Bionics. "This investment reflects confidence in our vision, our team, and the patients we serve."
