A 76-year-old cyclist from Izegem, West Flanders, died following a collision on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Meensesteenweg in Izegem.
The man was riding with a group of fellow cyclists when he fell into a ditch and onto the roadway. According to the West Flanders Public Prosecutor’s Office, a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction was unable to avoid him. The impact threw the victim into a nearby field.
Emergency services arrived quickly, but the man succumbed to his injuries.
The Prosecutor’s Office did not appoint a traffic expert, as the circumstances of the accident were clear: multiple witnesses saw the incident unfold.
