Two teenagers have been arrested as suspects in the investigation of an attack on a house on Boomsesteenweg in Antwerp earlier this week, according to the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office.

A homemade incendiary bomb exploded at the front door of the house, causing a brief fire that led to the three residents being hospitalised for smoke inhalation. The two perpetrators, one on a scooter and the other on foot, fled the scene after the explosion.

The investigation recently identified a 15-year-old Dutch boy and a 13-year-old Belgian boy as suspects. They were apprehended and confessed during questioning. As a result, the juvenile court has placed them in a youth detention centre.

The police continue to investigate, including a potential link to the drug trade. Antwerp has a long-standing issue of drug-related bombing attacks.
