A motorcyclist was killed and a pedestrian seriously injured during a police chase in Brussels overnight from Saturday to Sunday, multiple well-informed sources confirmed.
The Brussels public prosecutor’s office reported Sunday morning that initial findings indicate no errors were made by the police during the intervention.
According to the prosecutor’s statement, at around 22:30 on Saturday, a patrol from the Brussels-North police zone attempted to conduct a road check on a motorcyclist who had committed several infractions.
The motorcyclist, a 19-year-old man from Leuven, fled and drove dangerously. He collided with a pedestrian and fell. He died from his injuries at the scene.
The pedestrian, a 19-year-old from Brussels, was taken to hospital in critical condition. His life is no longer in danger.
The public prosecutor’s office dispatched an expert to the scene. The federal judicial police laboratory and a forensic doctor were assigned to the case.
An automotive expert was also brought in to establish the exact circumstances of the accident. The prosecutor’s office stated there would be no further comments at this stage.
