June 2025 will go down in history as exceptionally warm, dry and sunny in Belgium. With an average temperature of 19.3°C Celsius in the official measuring station in Uccle, it was (together with June 2003) the second warmest June since measurements began in 1833.
Only June 2023 was even warmer, with an average monthly temperature of 20.3°C, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) announced on Tuesday. The temperatures shot up especially after 10 June, with a peak of 32.7°C in Uccle on 13 June. In Westmalle (Antwerp), 34.8°C was recorded that same day.
Remarkably, four tropical days (above 30°C) were counted, in addition to 13 summer days on which the temperature exceeded 25°C – well above the normal average of 5.7 days. Additionally, Belgium also had 23 spring days (above 20°C), where there are normally 17.
There was hardly any precipitation: in Uccle, only 31.6 mm of precipitation fell spread over ten days, less than half the usual amount. It was remarkable that not a drop of rain fell between 11 and 20 June.
As for the number of hours of sunshine, the month of June initially started gloomy, but then turned around after the first ten days and ended up with a total sunshine duration of 248 hours and 35 minutes, again well above average.
Finally, the RMI also notes that, on 7 June, a tornado passed over the region of Ath (Hainaut province), but otherwise the weather remained calm without extreme gusts of wind.
