The emergency number 1722 for storm and water damage was activated on Wednesday by the Interior Ministry in response to weather warnings by the Royal Meteorological Institute.
The number 1722 is for situations that are not life-threatening. In potentially life-threatening situations, you should still call 112.
A code yellow for thunderstorms is in effect today for Limburg, Liège, Namur and Luxembourg. In the course of the afternoon, there is a chance of local heavy thunderstorms, especially in the eastern half of the country.
There is also a chance of heavy rainfall in a short period of time, strong gusts of wind and hailstones. Heavy thunderstorms are also possible elsewhere, but too localised or with too little chance of reaching code yellow.
Anyone who needs assistance from the fire brigade, for example in the event of storm or water damage, can submit a request via the e-desk www.1722.be or call 1722.
The aim is to avoid overloading the 112 emergency services and to ensure that people in life-threatening situations are not kept waiting.
