After the Belgian Football Association (URBSFA) announced at the end of June that it had recorded a loss of €1.28 million in 2024, the organisation's CEO Peter Willems, who was present at the Red Flames' base camp at the Women's Euro in Switzerland on Saturday, was keen to highlight the recent efforts made by the national association to put its finances in order.
"I started as CEO in a difficult period," admitted Peter Willems. "The most important thing is to get things back on track financially. Together with the entire board of directors, we want to build something. Of course, last year's figures are not good. We made a loss in a year in which the Red Devils played a major tournament. That shouldn't happen."
However, estimates suggested an even more negative result for the Belgian Union's finances. "We have almost broken even," stressed Willems. "We've worked very hard on this and I'm proud of it. It will be a different story in 2025, a year without a major tournament for the Diables. Add to that the sacking of Domenico Tedesco and the recruitment of Rudi Garcia. But here again, we're going to try to limit the losses. Financial stability is very important, and we need it if we are to continue investing in sport, refereeing and everything to do with the pitch. And that's what we want as a federation."
