Staff at the Carrefour branch in Dilsen-Stokkem were targeted by a robbery on Sunday morning around 7:00. According to the Limburg public prosecutor's office, one of the employees present received a blow to the head with a weapon during the robbery, and another was slightly injured during a skirmish.

As the investigation into the robbery is still ongoing, the prosecutor's office remains sparse with information about the number of robbers. However, spokesperson Liesbeth Leekens did confirm that the robbers would not have made any loot. They allegedly then fled in a car parked in the street behind. That vehicle was located a few hours later in Genk, where it was trapped by police forces from the CARMA zone on the Europalaan. The driver of that car was arrested.

Via social media, Mayor Sofie Vandeweerd (Open VLD) announced that the Carrefour in Dilsen-Stokkem would remain closed all day.
