On Thursday morning, local police in the Merksem district of Antwerp cordoned off an industrial estate on Oostkaai, in the Dokske neighbourhood.
A suspicious package, possibly an explosive device, was found on the street.
The DOVO bomb disposal unit is on-site to assess whether the package can be safely removed and detonated elsewhere. Until then, the safety perimeter will remain in place.
Several businesses in the vicinity have been evacuated as a precaution. The package was found near a building materials shop that had been sealed off by the courts for months due to alleged money laundering.
