A 20-year-old inmate who escaped from Corbas Prison, near Lyon, by hiding in his cellmate’s belongings was captured on Monday morning in Sathonay-Camp, Lyon, according to the Lyon Prosecutor’s Office.
The young man was arrested around 06:00 as he emerged from a cellar, and he is currently in custody, stated the prosecutor’s office in a communiqué.
His accomplice cellmate was not with him at the time and is still at large.
The inmate managed to escape by concealing himself in the belongings of his cellmate, who was about to be released after serving his sentence.
According to a communiqué from the prison administration sent to AFP, the young man was serving multiple sentences and took advantage of his cellmate’s release to hide in his luggage and exit the prison.
An internal investigation has been launched to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this escape.
