A violent incident involving asylum seekers occurred on Monday evening in Lommel, leading to three arrests.
The altercation took place at around 17:45 at the Parelstrand recreational area in Lommel, where asylum seekers reside. What began as an argument escalated into a stabbing incident. One individual was seriously injured and required hospitalisation, although the injuries were not life-threatening. Another asylum seeker sustained minor injuries. Two of the individuals involved were from the Pelt reception centre, while the third was from a centre in Lommel.
The fate of the three arrested suspects is expected to be clarified on Tuesday.
On Sunday, 6 July, a separate brawl involving around 20 Afghan nationals also happened in Lommel, resulting in four injuries, two of which were initially life-threatening. Six of them remain in custody related to that judicial investigation.
On Tuesday, the Limburg public prosecutor’s office stated that the latest incident involving the three asylum seekers in Lommel is unrelated to the earlier serious violence among the Afghans.
