On Wednesday, the Arlon Correctional Court examined a significant case of violence involving four men accused of assaulting, detaining, and extorting money from their former employer.
These men, believed to be undeclared workers, admitted that the construction company, which has since been sold, owed them payment.
The business faced difficulties after failing to complete 22 houses in a Frassem housing estate, leading to its sale. Living in France, the workers claimed unpaid wages and visited their ex-boss’s home in Athus on the night of 23 October 2024.
The man was forcibly taken into a car, threatened with a weapon, and beaten. The suspects demanded €100,000. The victim’s partner, contacted and threatened by phone, transferred €10,000.
The public prosecutor asserted the crimes were premeditated and involved criminal association, extortion, unlawful detention, and possession of a weapon, requesting sentences from 42 months to five years based on involvement.
The verdict will be delivered on 30 July.
