Five arrested following shooting incident in Sint-Niklaas

Police have arrested five suspects in connection with an incident on the night of Thursday to Friday in Sint-Niklaas, East Flanders, in which gunshots were fired, injuring four persons.

The East Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office has referred the case to an investigating judge.

The incident took place at around 2 a.m. A suspicious vehicle was later intercepted in Antwerp using ANPR cameras. The police then arrested five men, aged between 27 and 35. They were to be questioned later on Friday.

Three seriously injured men were taken to hospital. A fourth man was slightly injured in the head.

The injured persons wereto be questioned as soon as the state of their health allowed it.

The victims, aged between 29 and 36, and were still in hospital on Friday afternoon.

The East Flanders public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the incident. The forensic laboratory was called in and CCTV footage analysed.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting have yet to be determined.
