Dozens of animals have reportedly been found in a state of neglect at a farm in Wallonia.

On 15 July, two animal rescue organisations, Le Rêve d'Aby and Animaux en Péril, visited the farm in the province of Hainaut after being alerted about the condition of several unsheared sheep.

In a post on social media, Le Rêve d’Aby described the farm as a “scene of horror”, with “dozens of animal corpses” discovered on the site.

Volunteers found four sheep corpses and a battery of cages containing dead chickens. They said the farm’s buildings were “dilapidated” and described animal cages “covered in excrement”.

Three sheep were also found wandering around the farm. Le Rêve d’Aby claim the sheep had fleeces which had been left unsheared for several years and were infested with parasites.

In the farm’s breeding facilities, the charity found three surviving roosters, five hens, two chicks and two geese.

Police reportedly obtained an act of voluntary abandonment which allowed them to seize the animals and place them in the care of the rescue centres.

All the surviving animals have been removed from the farm and given emergency veterinary treatment.
