Tomorrowland has received permission from the Boom municipality to launch fireworks during its second festival weekend starting Friday, despite concerns from some local residents.
Following a fire that destroyed the main stage at Tomorrowland and scattered burning debris in the vicinity, tensions have risen in the area of De Schorre.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but some residents are against the festival’s decision to opt for large-scale fireworks again. They urge Tomorrowland to consider their worries, especially after last weekend’s smouldering embers.
Boom municipality indicates that all the conditions of the existing permit have been met, and the recent rainfall contributed to the positive decision.
Tomorrowland informed local residents via a letter, stating, “As you may have noticed, there were fireworks last weekend. They are part of the experience we aim to offer our visitors.” The organisation insists that all activities are conducted safely and in consultation with the relevant authorities.
In an additional statement, Tomorrowland assures that while the fireworks this weekend will be more extensive than the first weekend, they will still be more limited than in previous years.
