A two-euro commemorative coin will honour the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, as announced by the circuit’s officials on Friday.
The coin’s design celebrates the circuit’s role in both the landscape and the history of motorsports. It features the silhouette of the current track, with the inscription “CIRCUIT DE SPA FRANCORCHAMPS,” the length “7,004 M,” and the year “1921,” marking its inception. At the bottom, the mint mark, represented by Mercury’s staff, and the initials “IB” for the designer Iris Bruijns, are displayed.
The two-euro coin is available in two options on the commemorative coin website. The “Brilliant Uncirculated” version comes in a plastic card with the circuit’s colours, offered in French and Dutch, with a mintage of 150,000 units. The “Proof” version is presented in a case, limited to 5,000 units.
Although these coins hold legal tender status across the eurozone, they will not be circulated.
During a ceremony at the circuit, Pierre-Yves Jeholet, Wallonia’s Vice-President and Minister for the Economy, said: “The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, a heritage jewel and a flagship of global motorsport, has contributed to Wallonia’s economic and tourist dynamism for decades. Issuing this commemorative coin is a well-deserved recognition.”
Established in 1921, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit has become a motorsport icon and regional attraction. It also plays a significant economic and tourism role. In 2023, the circuit reported an economic impact of €147 million, employing 2,501 full-time-equivalent staff, and welcoming 596,239 visitors over 221 days of track activities.
