Defence Minister Theo Francken announced on Friday evening that an agreement has been reached with the military union ACMP-CGPM regarding the proposed social plan being discussed within Defence circles.
Other unions, including CGSP, CSC, and SLFP-Defence, are taking their time to review the latest draft. Another meeting is expected by the end of August.
According to a joint statement from CGSP, CSC, and SLFP-Defence, “After consultation with all partners, the Defence Minister showed goodwill and presented a new version of the proposed social agreement earlier in the afternoon.”
Individual discussions were then held with each union. The unions noted, “By the end of the day, the minister returned to all organisations with a final version of the text. The three unions have requested a reasonable time to consult their members and delegates.”
The Defence Minister and the Chief of Defence will present the details of this proposed social agreement to the press on Saturday morning at 10:00.
Military unions expressed concern over a lack of recognition for soldiers’ working conditions, insufficient attention to their well-being, and the proposed increase in retirement age included in the federal government’s agreement.
