Supermarket chain Jumbo has withdrawn a falafel product from sale after discovering it contained pork, following consultation with the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC).

Although the recall by the Dutch supermarket chain was initiated on Tuesday, it was initially unclear whether it also affected the Belgian market. It has now been confirmed that it does. Jumbo urges all customers who purchased the "Falafel Lebanese Style" product with an expiration date of 29 July 2025, and who do not wish or are not permitted to consume pork, to return it to the store. A refund will be provided, even without a receipt.

“We regret this recall and apologise for any uncertainty it has caused our customers,” Jumbo stated on its website on Tuesday. “Customer trust is our highest priority, and we are committed to preventing such situations in the future.”

Originally a Dutch supermarket chain, Jumbo has expanded to Belgium since 2019, and there are now 42 stores across Flanders. It is unclear how many people purchased the affected product.
