The Interior Ministry on Thursday announced the activation of the 1722 number due to the risk of storm or flooding.
The 1722 hotline is used when damage from a storm or water damage requires assistance from firefighters.
Submitting a request through the online portal 1722.be is the most direct way to seek firefighter assistance in situations where no life is in danger, while the 112 number is reserved for situations in which life is at risk.
“A request submitted electronically via 1722.be will be sent directly to the firefighters,” the Ministry explains. “Calls to 1722 are initially handled by the 112 emergency centre operators before being forwarded to the firefighters.
“If you request assistance via the 1722.be website, you must enter your contact details and municipality. The site will then send your request to your local emergency zone. The website can also redirect you to the electronic portal of your local fire service.”
Additionally, the Royal Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow warning for the province of Liège from Thursday afternoon to Friday evening. Rainfall could reach 20 to 30 mm during this period, with over 40 mm possible in elevated areas.
