Traffic disruptions are expected until early September as road works begin on the N68 between Deiffelt and Schmiede at the Belgium-Luxembourg border, announced the Public Service of Wallonia (SPW) for Mobility and Infrastructure.
The project is due to start on 18 August and is expected to be completed on Friday 5 September. A detour route will be established, according to the SPW which is responsible for implementing policies established by the Walloon government.
The construction aims to renew the top layers across the entire width of the N68, covering nearly 2km between the junction with the N815 and the Knauf shopping roundabout. The road surface at the junction and roundabout will also be refurbished.
The works will result in traffic changes, closing the N68 between Deiffelt and Schmiede. Drivers will be directed to follow a detour via the N827 and N62, passing through Beho, Maldingen, Grüfflingen, Oudler, Malscheid, and the N7 on the Luxembourg side, according to the SPW.
Traffic management will allow local users to cross the construction site only in the direction from Luxembourg to Belgium.
However, crossing the site will not be possible on 26 August, when the new surface will be laid at the Schmiede roundabout, the SPW specifies.
The project has a budget of €600,000, including VAT, funded by Wallonia.
