An explosion in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on Saturday morning is likely the result of malicious intent, according to the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident occurred around 05:50 on Boulevard Mettewie, where an explosion followed by a fire significantly damaged the facade of a hair salon. The neighbouring business also suffered damage, but no injuries were reported.

Brussels firefighters quickly responded to extinguish the flames, and police secured the area. The Prosecutor’s Office was informed and promptly launched an investigation.

The federal judicial police laboratory and a fire expert conducted initial technical analyses at the scene. Their primary aim is to identify potential suspects.

"The investigation is ongoing, and no further comments will be made at this stage," stated the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
