A woman operating a barge died on Monday aboard the vessel near the Holcim cement factory in Obourg, in Wallonia, according to the Mons Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday.
The operator was delivering slag from the metallurgical industry to the cement factory, according to the company’s spokesperson.
The accident occurred approximately 300 metres further along when the victim collided with a structure leading to a cement loading tower, according to Holcim.
The Labour Auditorate inspected the scene, but since the operator was self-employed, the case has been handed over to the Mons Prosecutor. An expert has been appointed to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
