Traffic around the city of Antwerp is set to be busier than normal on Thursday and Friday, warned events organiser FKP Scorpio.

The famous British artist, Ed Sheeran, is back in Belgium with two concerts in Middenvijver on 7 and 8 August. On the same days, several other concerts and events will be taking place in and around Antwerp. This is expected to impact road traffic as well as public transport in the area.

Nearby municipalities, such as Beveren and Kruibeke announced additional parking enforcement measures as residents fear parking disruption in residential areas, according to Belga News Agency.

Those attending the concert are advised to plan ahead of time and leave well in advance for the concert to avoid crowds and traffic jams.

FKP Scorpio further recommends avoiding travelling by car if possible. "Think of the train, tram, bus, bicycle or park-and-ride: often faster and more convenient than by car," the organisers added.

Public transport will be reinforced during the two days. A night train service will be offered on the nights of the concert to   Neerpelt, Ostend, Roeselare, Aalst, Landen, and Tongeren. The 'Ed Sheeran train ticket' also includes a shuttle service to Antwerp Central from the concert venue.

In addition, extra trams will be running to the concert venues on Thursday and Friday. The reinforced tram lines are lines 3, 5, 9, and 15.

Those travelling by car are recommended to park at the car park with direct tram connections to the venue. It is recommended to reserve parking ahead of time online. More information on transport options is available online.
