In the Brussels municipality of Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, two police officers were injured on Tuesday evening when their vehicle was involved in a traffic accident.

The accident occurred at around 19:30 at the junction of Woluwelaan and Vootstraat. A patrol from the Montgomery police zone (Etterbeek/Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe/Sint-Pieters-Woluwe), en route to a fire, collided with a car. The impact caused the police vehicle to flip over several times before coming to a halt on the tram tracks.

One of the officers had to be freed from the vehicle by the fire brigade and was taken to hospital; his condition is no longer deemed critical as of Wednesday. The second officer, who was in shock, managed to return home on Tuesday evening.

The car driver underwent a breathalyser test following the crash and was found not to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the public prosecutor. A traffic expert has been appointed to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident.
