Former radio presenter B.D.R. is under suspicion for possessing illegal images of child sexual abuse, according to a report by Humo magazine citing five different sources.

The prosecutor’s office has declined to comment on the investigation. The suspect’s wife, a journalist at VRT’s news service, reportedly discovered the images on his hard drive earlier this summer and alerted the police.

D.R. was detained and questioned by police but has since been released under conditions without an electronic monitoring bracelet. His contract with Mediahuis has been terminated.

Davina Simons, the suspect’s lawyer, confirmed to the press agency Belga that an investigation is indeed underway but declined to comment further, opting to await developments quietly.

Mediahuis, D.R.’s employer, confirmed awareness of the investigation. Spokesperson An Steylemans stated, “B. decided to resign in early July, and by mutual agreement, the collaboration was ended. Mediahuis and Play Nostalgie are not involved in this case, and we have no further information. We trust the justice system to conduct its work diligently.”
