Belgium is bracing for a heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar to 34°C on Tuesday, according to the Royal Meteorological Institute.

As parts of France and Italy grapple with intense heat, Belgium is also set for rising temperatures, with the peak anticipated on Tuesday. Earlier this week, the Royal Meteorological Institute predicted that a heatwave is likely next week.

A heatwave is defined as a period of at least five days with minimum temperatures of 25°C, including three days where temperatures reach at least 30 degrees.

After a sunny Sunday, Monday will also be bright and warm, with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 30°C. The heat will persist on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures reaching 34°C on Tuesday and 32 or 33°C on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the weather will turn more unstable, with some rain expected in the eastern half of the country during the morning and possible showers in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain high, fluctuating between 26°C and 31°C.

In France, 42 departments have been placed under an orange heatwave alert, with Météo-France forecasting localised temperatures of up to 42°C on Sunday afternoon.
