Two men have been arrested and placed under arrest in connection with a series of sexual assaults and rapes that occurred last year in the Bois de la Cambre, according to Brussels Public Prosecutor Julien Moinil.

The suspects are two men, aged 32 and 41, who reportedly do not know each other. They are suspected of a total of seven offences.

The 32-year-old was caught using DNA samples and arrested in early July. He is being prosecuted in four rape cases. According to Moinil, the suspect has a criminal record and has previously been convicted for drug-related offences.

The other man was arrested on 7 August, and was also caught using DNA samples. He is being prosecuted for three rape allegations. Moinil said the second man also has a criminal record and has been convicted of voyeurism offences.

Between 26 July, 2024, and 18 April, 2025, a total of 13 rapes and sexual assaults occurred in the Bois de la Cambre, near the Jeux d'Hiver nightclub.

In a press conference earlier today, Moinil said: "The arrest of these two suspects is an important step toward creating a safer environment. A sense of insecurity had long prevailed in the area. Violence, particularly against women and children, is a priority for the public prosecutor's office.

"Thanks to intensive police work and thorough investigations by the public prosecutor's office, these two suspects were identified and taken into custody. I would like to thank the police and the staff of the public prosecutor's office for their commitment."

According to Moinil, police have taken steps to prevent further attacks in the area, including through night patrols and the installation of security cameras in the Bois de la Cambre.
