A motorist crashed into the back of a lorry on Friday morning in Lessines, Wallonia. The driver was killed instantly, according to the local fire brigade.

The emergency services in Wallonia were alerted at 05:12 on Friday morning to a serious road accident on Rue René Magritte in Lessines. Several vehicles were dispatched to the scene from the Rebaix fire station in Ath.

The accident occurred on the road towards the centre of Lessines. A car, whose driver appears to have been the only person involved, crashed into the trailer of a lorry parked in the street.

"When we arrived at the scene, the SMUR emergency services told us that the driver had already died," said Captain Éric Stasik. The deceased driver had been cut out of the vehicle. The cause of the accident is still unclear.
