Flemish motorways have been impacted by exceptionally heavy traffic jams on Friday, according to the Flemish Traffic Centre.

While there is no single cause for the long traffic jams, the traffic centre notes that the summer bank holiday is causing heavy traffic on the E40 towards the coast.

Moreover, several accidents, including some in Beernem and Wetteren, also contributed to the slow traffic flow during the morning.

In addition, there are also long traffic jams on the Antwerp ring road. Several accidents also occurred there on Friday morning.

Around noon, there were still traffic jams on the E19 towards the Netherlands, the E313 towards Antwerp, the E314 towards Limburg and on the Brussels ring road (in both directions).

It is unclear how long the traffic problems will continue. According to the Traffic Centre, over 140 kilometres of traffic jams were reported at one point on Friday.
