A smoke machine on a party boat was mistaken for a fire in the Vaartkom in Leuven on Friday morning.
The local fire brigade was called out to what they thought was a serious fire; however, on arrival, it turned out to be a smoke machine that had been left on, according to local police.
"Shortly before 08:00 on Friday morning, the emergency services were called to the Vaartkom, where smoke was coming from a party boat,’ said police spokesman Marc Vranckx. "The fire alarm had also been triggered. When the police and fire brigade arrived at the scene, there was already a lot of smoke."
Traffic was diverted to allow the emergency services to do their work, but it soon became clear that there was no fire.
"There was also no one left on the boat," Vranckx continued. "The smoke turned out to be coming from a smoke machine that was still on. The fire brigade turned off the machine and ventilated the boat."
