A homeless man from Arlon could be given a six-year prison sentence for raping a homeless woman and another person in her seventies if the Arlon Criminal Court grants a request to that effect from the prosecution.
The incidents involving the homeless woman took place at the end of September 2024.
In her testimony, the victim explained that she met the defendant through her best friend, who is the former partner of the accused. The public prosecutor said the victim was held captive, raped and beaten in the defendant's tent for several days.
However, the accused, who is in his forties, categorically denies the accusations, insisting that his sexual relations with the woman were consensual.
A few weeks later, on 4 November, the defendant went with one of his friends to the home of a woman in her seventies. They both went shopping for the woman, but only the defendant returned to her home.
"He made himself comfortable, put his bottle of vodka in the fridge and ate the victim's meal," the public prosecutor explained. "After consuming the alcohol, he felt sexually aroused and attacked the elderly woman. He pinned her to the floor, raped her several times and refused to leave. He spent the night in her home, in the living room."
The victim confided in social workers the following day. "Her statements are consistent with the injuries found during the examination," noted the prosecution, which is seeking a six-year prison sentence.
The defence is asking for the longest possible suspended sentence, as all the facts are disputed.
The verdict will be handed down on 22 September.
